Growing up in the Blue Mountains with a family where my parents ran a small business, and constantly around others operating businesses, I quickly understood the highs and the lows associated with running a business.

One of those lows were the “cold callers” and cut-throat marketing agencies who promised the world, but didn’t deliver anything that resulted in the actual growth of the business, often leaving a trail of destruction.

The biggest lesson I learnt after taking on more responsibilities with both my family business & other brands, is that if you keep your head in one channel for too long, you can’t operate profitably for too long.

Not only do you not see how your efforts in one channel are affecting the rest of the business, but you are also not able to identify customer behavior accurately.

You wouldn’t go from seeing a Facebook post about a new car to purchasing it in one click…

You would take your time to research models and comparisons, you might wait for a better deal to come along and forget about it, just to be reminded by remarketing ads constantly following you around the internet.
